A Most Generous Man
opera in one scene for soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor, and baritone
Opera on Tap OKC is a group that puts on shows every month at local bars and restaurants, which feature young rising opera stars singing arias from the standard repertoire built around a particular theme. It is a fantastic way to introduce people to opera, who may otherwise never step foot in an opera house. In 2017 they put out a call for proposals for local composers to write short opera scenes for their Ten-Minute Opera Festival. I had worked very closely with the filmmaker, Spike Alkire, for several years, scoring his short films and felt that he would be the perfect person to create a libretto for this project. I was overjoyed when he showed me his work. It was a heartfelt story of a real crisis in the united states, while at the same time, a hilarious lampoon of social media culture. #thoughtsandprayers
